How Does MAX SOLD Work?

Maxsold is an online auction platform that helps you sell your unwanted or unneeded items quickly and easily.

It works best when you have at least 50 lots (groupings of items). So if you do, hold off on donating or giving anything away until after your auction.

The money you earn from your auction can help offset the cost of clearing your home while putting some cash in your pocket. Just keep in mind that some preparation is required before getting started.

Set realistic expectations. For example, traditional mahogany furniture usually does not sell for what it once did. The market has changed and younger buyers often prefer modern styles.

Two Ways To Sell

Seller-Managed Auctions

In a seller-managed auction, you handle the photography, catalog descriptions, and pickup coordination. Maxsold lists your auction online, promotes it to thousands of local buyers, and manages the bidding process.

The fee is $99 or 30% of gross sales, whichever is greater.

Need Help?

If you prefer hands-on support, we can connect you with one of our dedicated professional partners. These are experienced organizers and move managers who use Maxsold as part of the services they offer. They can take care of sorting, photographing, and managing pickup day logistics for you.

Preparing for Auction

  • Clearly mark which items will be sold.
  • Empty all furniture such as dressers, cabinets, and desks.
  • Group similar items together.
  • Keep everything visible and easy to access.
  • Label or secure anything that is not for sale.
  • Combine less desirable items with more attractive ones to increase bidding interest.
  • Disconnect any built-in fixtures or electronics ahead of time.

Pro Tip: Create themed lots, such as “Happy Hour” (crystal glasses, martini shaker, beer mugs, pitcher) or “Holiday Décor” (Christmas or Halloween decorations).

Cataloging and Pre-Auction

If you are working with one of our professional partners, they will come to your home, organize items into lots, take photos, and write detailed descriptions.

If you are managing it yourself, take clear photos and write honest, accurate descriptions. You’ll have a chance to review your catalog before it is published. Once it goes live, changes cannot be made.

Every item starts at $1. That low starting price attracts more bidders and competition, which helps maximize your results. Make sure you are comfortable with this before adding higher-value items.

Auction Week

Your auction will run online for one week. Maxsold promotes it through social media, online listings, and email campaigns to reach thousands of buyers in your area.

Most of the action happens in the final hours. Typically, 40 to 60 percent of all bids occur on the last day, and many come in during the last few minutes.

Pro Tip: A recent auction saw a collection of cameras go from $1,250 to $5,266 in the final three minutes.

You can also help by sharing your auction link with friends, family, and your social network to bring in more bidders.

Preparing for Pick-Up Day

If you live in a gated community or building, get any required permissions or elevator access in advance. Provide written approval to Maxsold several days before pickup.

Make sure the crew can access all areas they need and that any building security requirements are handled.

Pick-Up Day

The Maxsold crew or your partner’s team will arrive early to set up signage and organize the pickup process. Buyers check in with their receipts and ID, then are guided to their items.

If something is large or heavy, buyers are responsible for bringing their own help to move it. Neither you nor Maxsold are responsible for lifting or loading.

Pro Tip: Offering water or snacks to the crew is always appreciated.

If any items remain unsold, you can choose to have them donated or given away. It’s an easy way to clear out everything and finish the process completely.

Payment

Within 10 to 14 days after pickup, Maxsold sends your proceeds by FedEx, minus the fees and commissions.

Benefits of Using MaxSold

  • Environmentally friendly choice that reduces waste and keeps usable items out of landfills.
  • Supports the local economy by connecting buyers and sellers nearby.
  • Saves time and money compared to junk removal while turning your clutter into cash.

Whether you manage your auction yourself or get help from one of our dedicated professional partners, Maxsold gives you a simple, transparent, and effective way to turn your clutter into cash while helping others find value in the things you no longer need.
